Miracle Juice

If you read my last post, you'll know I had an allergic reaction last week to peas (whoops!).  I spared you any pics, because this one was a doozy, and in fact it took such a toll on my immune system that I came down with a cold that developed into bronchitis.  I've never had bronchitis before.  It's not my favorite.  I'm really a big baby about the slightest sniffle, so this whole coughing up my lung at 3am each night and gagging on phlegm throughout the day is just not my bag.  After 5 days of skipping my workouts, and 4 sleepless nights, I finally decided to experiment in the kitchen to see if I could help myself get some relief.  We had a blizzard here a few days ago, my driveway is still uncleared, there's no way in hell I'm going out in public to grocery shop, so I made do with what I found in the fridge and pantry.  A little of this, a little of that... Friends, I have created a Miracle Juice.  Within 20 minutes of drinking a glass of this spicy orange tonic my nasal passages opened like the gates of heaven, and I breathed fresh air in and out with ease for the first time in a week.  My chronic cough of course didn't disappear, but it remarkably improved.  This significant relief of my congestion has lasted the entire day and into this evening as I'm typing this now.  It's been an incredible relief.  I'll be drinking this daily until I'm 100%- the only problem now is that I'm out of ginger AND garlic, and that driveway is still covered in snow.

I hope you'll enjoy as much benefit from this miracle juice as I have- whether you're looking for an immunity boost for prevention, or to relieve symptoms.  My daughter insisted on a taste- orange and spicy are two of her fave flavors.  That's her lil drinking glass in the photo- of course she loved it.  My guess though is that miracle juice is too concentrated and potent for little bellies, and I don't recommend it for kiddos beyond just a small taste.   

Miracle Juice

(serves 1)

1 orange (peel removed)

1 small lemon (peel removed)

1/2 cucumber

1/2 small white onion

1.5-2" chunk of peeled ginger

2-3 cloves of garlic

1/4 cup raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the mother

2 tsp manuka honey

1 tsp turmeric powder (or juice fresh turmeric root)

pinch of cayenne pepper

pinch black pepper

Use a centrifugal or cold press juicer to juice all of the ingredients except for the apple cider vinegar, manuka honey, turmeric and cayenne powders, and black pepper.  After juicing, simply stir in the remaining ingredients with a spoon.  The honey will take 1-2 minutes of good stirring to fully dissolve.
