BEST SPORTS BRA FOR NURSING MOMS
If you're a nursing mom, regular sports bras are not recommended because the compression can cause plugged ducts, irritate already irritable or sensitive skin, or at a minimum cause some real discomfort during workouts. To complicate things, lactating breasts change shape and size by the hour depending on how much milk is being produced or expressed at any given moment, and these fluctuations make it next to impossible to determine a good fit or exact size in a sports bra. If you nurse on demand, (which I highly recommend for a million reasons that I won't get into in this post), you may find yourself needing to nurse in the middle of, or right after a workout, and getting to a hungry baby quickly is no fun when you're wrestling to pull your entire sports bra off over your head.
Never mind any of the above mentioned challenges- I've got you covered- and uncovered in a jiffy- and supported regardless what size you might need each day... I was SO lucky to stumble upon an amazing sports bra when my daughter was a newborn that has perfectly solved all of these issues. The Moving Comfort brand Fiona sports bra is everything you'll need beginning with your first postpartum workout and all the way until your little weans. I bought 3 of them, I workout 6 days a week, and they have all 3 lasted for over 3 years, as I'm still happily nursing my daughter. You can purchase on Amazon, REI, Brooks Running Store, Nordstrom and many more small sports retail stores as well.
Perhaps the most incredible thing about the Moving Comfort Fiona bra, is that it was not designed with breastfeeding in mind, at least not advertised as such at all. I was simply lucky enough to see it online and notice it had some pretty great features for us nursing mothers. It's full coverage for great support, and it has INSANE adjustability in size. The back has 3 hook and eye closures like a regular lingerie bra, and with all three options for a loose, tight, or tightest fit. The really cool part is that the straps each have velcro, making them adjustable too, so you can tighten them as much or as little as you need for each wear. In less than a split second you can open the velcro entirely in order for your baby to nurse, all while keeping your sports bra ON! You simply un-velcro one side to flap down the bit of fabric just as you would with a regular nursing bra. Please know I have no affiliations with the Moving Comfort brand, but I share this post with you because this bra has become such an important part of my daily lifestyle and I hope it might help you too. Big high fives to working out and nursing, and XOXO to all you awesome mommas! Happy Mother's Day week!
