STRAWBERRY BANANA TRYST
Anytime I blend frozen bananas and strawberries together with vanilla bean or vanilla extract, my husband and I swear the combo somehow magically tastes EXACTLY like the ice cream we used to get regularly years ago at Cold Stone Creamery- something called Strawberry Banana Rendezvous. I fondly reminisce about their serving sizes: “Like It,” “Love It,” and our choice serving size, “Gotta Have It.” Now that I'm nostalgic, I investigate the nutritional info on the company's website... IN. SHEER. HORROR. After having it countless times in my youth, it’s a wonder I’ve lived to type this entry… the Strawberry Banana Rendezvous "Gotta Have It” portion clocks in at 1040 calories, 58 grams of fat, 37 grams of saturated fat, 115 grams cholesterol, and 109 grams of sugar. According to the USFDA, for most people that’s more than half your daily calorie intake, and 89% of your recommended daily fat, more than 3 times the limit for daily saturated fat, and more than twice the recommended daily limit for sugar. Breathe. OK. I've double checked it. I stared speechless at the nutritional chart, no words for the horror and shame. Now I'll just stew on it for a while, feel grateful for cell turnover and sip slowly on a Strawberry Banana Tryst.
Strawberry Banana Tryst
2 frozen bananas
1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp chia seeds
enough water or unsweetened almond milk to blend
Optional: for the chocolate stripe in the middle, reserve 1/4 cup of the above mixture and add 1 Tbsp cacao powder and 1/2 one medjool date and blend. Pour 1/2 of your strawberry mixture into your cup, then slowly pour the chocolate layer on top. Pour the remaining half of the strawberry mixture on top of the chocolate to complete the stack.
Blend all of the ingredients above in your blender until you’ve achieved a smooth consistency. Pour in a glass and enjoy!
