WARM GOLDEN CINNAMON MILK

WARM GOLDEN CINNAMON MILK

It's cold outside.  Forget hot cocoa and try this healthy alternative that will warm you heart, ease joint pain and boost your immune system!  This warm cinnamon nut milk is simple to whip up in a high speed blender using the soup setting, or simply warm it on the stove a few seconds after blending in a standard blender- it's that easy!

Instead of processed sugars- (everything from white sugar, brown sugar, stevia, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar etc.)- I like to choose dates as a whole food sweetener, especially I'm making something I'm gonna guzzle down in the form of a drink.  I just can't get behind drinking honey or maple syrup despite how natural these two most natural sweeteners may be.  My favorite variety of dates is medjool because they're large and very moist if truly fresh. You can store them on the shelf, or they'll keep for months in the fridge and freezer.  Dates can be eaten raw or cooked into recipes.  It's my go to sweetener for anything that needs an alternative to the sweetness of fresh fruit. Just before using, always remember to cut each date in half and remove the pit.

Now, let's talk turmeric.  Did you know that turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow coloring?  It's been used in some cultures for over thousands of years as both a spice and a medicinal herb due to its curcumin content, a powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory.  It's warm bitter flavor pairs well with any veggies in winter soups, and you can even shake it on salads.  For this nut milk recipe turmeric makes your drink a beautiful golden color to warm your mood while you sip fireside.

WARM GOLDEN CINNAMON MILK✨

(Makes 2 servings)

1/4 cup raw almonds
1/4 cup raw cashews
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 pitted medjool date
2 cups filtered water

Place all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until smooth. If you have a high speed blender like Blendtec or Vitamix, use the 'soup' setting to instantly make warm milk.  If you have a regular blender, warm the blended milk on the stove for a few seconds being careful not to burn it. Kids love this too- the perfect treat after playing in the snow :)  Enjoy and stay warm!
